7. Cross-border data transfers

Because we offer a global service, the transfer of your information as outlined in Section 6 involves international data transfers to the United States and other jurisdictions that may have different data processing laws. When we transfer personal data outside the EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or other countries whose data protection laws are deemed adequate by the European Commission or other competent authorities, we typically rely on what are known as standard contractual clauses. The right to delete personal data
You can delete some of the information you've provided us directly within the service. You can also close your account as explained here, and we will then delete your information as outlined in this privacy policy. In any case, you can always contact us here.
Objection (opt-out) or restriction

The right to object to our processing of your personal data or to request that we temporarily or permanently stop processing your personal data.
You can opt out of certain processing of your personal data directly through your account settings. Alternatively, you can contact us here if you wish to object to or restrict the data processing described in this privacy policy.
Withdrawal of consent

The right to withdraw consent you have given us to process your personal data for a specific purpose.
You can withdraw the consent you've given us directly by updating your account settings or removing device permissions you've agreed to in your device settings (e.g., access to specific types of device data like phone contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, and location services, or permission to receive push notifications). When you withdraw your consent, some services may no longer work. You can always contact us here for more information.

Before we can respond to the above requests, we may, for your protection and that of all our members, ask for information to verify your identity or authority to act on a member's behalf. We wouldn't want anyone else to gain control of your data!

Please note that we may refuse requests for certain reasons, such as if we cannot verify your identity, if the request is unlawful or invalid, or if it may infringe on trade secrets, intellectual property, or another person's privacy. If you wish to receive information about another member, such as a copy of messages you've received from them, the other member must submit a request.

In certain countries, including the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority if you have concerns about how we process your personal data. You can find information about your data protection supervisory authority in the European Economic Area here and for the United Kingdom here. The data protection authority with whom you may lodge a complaint may be that of your habitual residence, your place of work, or the place where an alleged infringement occurred.

9. How long we keep your data

We want the connections you make through our Service to last forever, but we only retain your personal data for as long as necessary for legitimate business reasons (as set out in Section 4) and as permitted by applicable law.

If you decide to stop using our services, you can close your account, and your profile will no longer be visible to other members. Please note that we will automatically close your account if you have been inactive for two years.

After you close your account, we will delete your data as explained below:

  1. For the safety and security of our members, we maintain a three-month retention period after account closure. During this period, we retain your data to investigate unlawful or harmful behavior. Retaining data during this retention period is based on our legitimate interests and those of potential external victims.
  2. We retain limited data to comply with legal data retention obligations; specifically, we retain transaction information and imprecise purchase locations for 10 years to meet tax and accounting requirements, credit card information for the period during which the user can dispute the transaction, and "traffic data"/logs for one year to comply with legal data retention obligations. We also retain member consent records for five years to comply with and demonstrate our compliance with applicable laws.
  3. We retain limited data based on our legitimate interest: we retain customer care records and supporting data for 6 years from the date of notification to support our security efforts, to support our customer care decisions, to enforce our rights and to enable us to defend ourselves in the event of a claim, profile data and imprecise download location for one year pending potential litigation, for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims, and data necessary to prevent members who have been banned from opening a new account for as long as necessary to protect the security and vital interests of our members.
  4. c) Finally, we retain information based on our legitimate interest when there is an open or potential issue, claim or dispute that requires us to preserve information (in particular, if we receive a valid legal subpoena or request asking us to preserve data (in which case we must retain the data to comply with our legal obligations) or if data is otherwise necessary as part of legal proceedings.

Where and to the extent permitted by law, we may retain and use information that, on its own, cannot be specifically attributed to you for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including improving our services, creating new features, technologies and services, and keeping Kooijman Inc Group's services secure.

10. Children's Privacy

Our services are restricted to individuals 18 years of age or older. We do not permit individuals under 18 to use our platform. If you suspect a member is under 18, please use the reporting mechanism available through the service.

11. Changes to the Privacy Policy

This policy may change over time. We're always looking for new and innovative ways to help you build meaningful connections, and we strive to keep our information practices up-to-date. We'll notify you before significant changes take effect so you have time to review them.
